Crowns are also needed for teeth with root canals or implants and can be made out of 3 different materials: gold, porcelain fused to metal, or full porcelain also know as "Zirconia." Crowns can last for 20 to 30 years with good home care and regular dental check-ups.

Root Canals:
Root canals are necessary when the nerve of the tooth becomes inflamed or infected. This is a result of deep decay, repeated dental procedures, a crack or chip in the tooth. Root canals are very successful and the tooth usually feels normal within two to three days following the treatment.

Sealants:
Sealants are thin plastic coatings which are applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth. This is best done on children when the tooth first comes in, but they can be done at anytime as long as there is not any decay occurring. This does not require deep drilling or removing tooth structure. Sealants are a quick process that will help to prevent decay by sealing the deep grooves of chewing surfaces.

Grafts:
Gum tissue often recedes, exposing softer root structure, making it more susceptible to decay, sensitivity, and pain. Grafts replace lost tissue and bring your gums back to the way nature intended, keeping your teeth healthy and your smile beautiful.

Porcelain Veneers:
Veneers are a less invasive approach than crowning anterior teeth when a patient is mainly concerned with cosmetic appearance. It is necessary for the tooth structure to be in current good condition in order to provide a strong seating for the veneer. A complimentary consultation with Dr. Hurst will help to answer any questions you may have.

Laser Gum Treatment:
Gum disease is usually caused by bacteria that has irritated the gums and bone around your teeth, causing pockets. Left untreated, the bacteria can destroy bone and surrounding tissues and can lead to increased chance of stoke and heart attack and even cancer. Laser treatment eliminates bacteria in periodontal pockets and promotes healing and reattachment of the gums to the teeth and regeneration of the bone. This is the most advanced treatment available for treating periodontal disease. Laser treatment requires no cutting, sewing, or drilling, unlike the other treatments available. Extractions:
Teeth are extracted for a variety of reasons: the tooth may be too badly decayed or broken for a restoration; orthodontic treatment may require extractions if teeth are crowding; or sometimes baby teeth should be extracted because they can withhold permanent teeth from erupting. Whatever the case, if you need a tooth extracted, NüSmyle staff will assist you in the most comfortable way possible.

Wisdom teeth are usually the last teeth to erupt, if they do at all. Most people do not have room for them in their mouth. Wisdom teeth can cause gum disease, crowding, and other damage. Pain and swelling are the most common associated symptoms. We have many years of experience in removing wisdom teeth and offer sedation and nitrous oxide gas to help you feel more comfortable during the procedure.
